Extreme Laundry On Snowdon
Friday 1st April 2011
On 1st April 2011 (and no it wasn't an April Fools!), a friend of ours from Peru, Si Small, organised an event that was called "Extreme Laundry on Snowdon". Around 50 crazy fools, including Matt, attempted to climb Snowdon carrying a washing machine, ironing board and laundry basket! All in aid of Action for Kids.
After waking up to a very gloomy morning, everyone headed to the foot of Snowdon to pose for a few photos before getting ready to climb. Matt and Si (in the green) led the way and carried the washing machine for the first stint.
As the group progressed up the hill, the weather got steadily worse. With the wind getting quite strong, some of the group, including the children, turned round and went back down the mountain. The rest of the team carried on through the wind and rain, but two thirds of the way up the mountain the gale force winds hit around 50mph, and sadly the challenge itself had to be abandoned. With people literally being knocked off their feet and the washing machine swinging around dangerously, almost everyone stopped climbing and made their way back to the warm and dry of the hotels (and pub!). |
The washing machine was abandoned by the side of the track (people were notified!), and although Matt, Si and the others were disappointed that the challenge couldn't be finished, they could celebrate that £4000 had been raised for such a great charity, Action for Kids.
