Melbourne
We arrived in Melbourne late morning, and luckily we were able to check into our hotel straight away. During the afternoon we took a wander down to the MCG stadium and then went for dinner by the riverside.
On Christmas Eve it was one of the days we'd been looking forward to most - we visited the set of Neighbours! We saw all the areas where they do outdoor filming, including Ramsay Street (otherwise known as Pin Oak Ct!), and at the end of the tour we met Stingray! For the evening we went to Federation Square for the Carols by Candlelight concert, to try and get us in the Christmas spirit as we were having trouble what with it being such lovely weather!

On Christmas Day, we decided to have a room service breakfast in our hotel as a special treat. Then we headed for St Kilda beach, stopping on the way to catch up with one of Matt's friends. Christmas Day on the beach was very weird! It was full of English people in Melbourne for the cricket, all wearing santa hats!
Boxing Day was our day at the Ashes. We probably picked the best day of the entire series to go, as we were there on the day that England got Australia all out for less than 100 runs, and then went on to get 157 runs for no wickets. It was a great day to finish our time in Melbourne. The next day was spent driving, all day, to reach a midway point on the way to Sydney, called Merimbula. Our full day in Merimbula was spent at a very quiet beach a little way out from the town, and was the first day we could really make the most of the glorious weather.
Many thanks to:
Rodney & Linda, Bill for the money towards accommodation in Melbourne
Cindy & Edward, Sarah & Jimmy, Adrian & Mandy, Steph & Joe, Katie-Ruth, Jenny, Jenni for money towards Christmas Day on the beach and a room service breakfast
Elaine & Peter, Steve & Simone for money towards dinner by the riverside on our first night
Emma & James, Alan & Alexander for money towards the Neighbours tour
